Once there we couldn't believe that soo many people were already there! The seats were filled. Some people had been there since the library opened. It was such an awesome sight to see a room packed full of knitters all knitting and chatting away. And the bonus is that we were all there to see and support an awesome knitter/writer.
We saw people sitting along the sides and decided to join them. This also got us closer the front and closer to the Yarnharlot! Once seated we of course started knitting.
At around 2pm (when she was suppose to start speaking) we got an announcement: The Yarn Harlot was going to be late and would not arrive until around 4pm. It was also about this time that we noticed people with big pink bags....which could only be from one place - a yarn store. We inquired and learned that there was a yarn shop a couple of blocks away!!!!!!!! Score. The store, Busy Hands, was also having a 20% off wide store sale only making the store that much cooler. We stayed there for quite some time. I think close to 315 or 330 we went back to the library to await the star of the day. Just after 4 the Yarn Harlot arrived and came running down the aisle - the very same aisle we were sitting in!!!
She gave a fabulous speech. It was hilarious and heart warming at the same time. She also explained why she was late. It turns out she was on a flight that made it to Detroit, but was not allowed to land because of fog. The plane was sent back to Chicago and she had to wait and wait and wait to get another flight. Finally back on the plane, she arrived in Detroit but with no ride to Ann Arbor. But wait! A stranger came to the rescue and gave her a ride to the library in Ann Arbor! His name is Brad. He was the hero for the day. After the speech she was signing books and it turns out that our aisle seat was an excellent choice as that is where the line for book signings started. Kate's camera had run out of batteries (I had forgotten mine) and we befriend a girl named Cait in line and she took our picture with the YarnHarlot and promptly emailed it to Kate who emailed it to me.
And here we are at the height of an awesome day posing with the Yarn Harlot and her sock.I should post about the yarn that I bought. Maybe I'll save that for another day.
