A Wicked tale

I have been working on Wicked. But now I'm depressed. I tried it on again tonight after I realized that I might have gone too far length wise. Anyhow, I think I pretty much hate the way it looks and I'm sad. I feel like it is pretty lumpy. It is also obvious where it is bigger around the part above my waist but fitted at my waist. Since I didn't add in any increases it looks like it "hugs" my hips. It is just fitted at the hips were as the upper waist is not fitted at all.

You can even see in the picture how it is bunching in the front! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

This is me sad. Sad and with messy hair. Tragic.

Blah. I don't want to finish it with the crossover collar pattern now. I don't want to waste my time for something I will probably hate and possibly not wear. The only solace I feel is that maybe I can block it to fit correctly.

The Loot

My mom is the best mom ever. She is also crazy ;O) She recently sent me an awesome package consisting of a knitter's dream. First up we have a picture of the goodies overflowing from the box which they were packed in.

What's that inside that white bag there? Oh, it's a nice stash of yarn to add to my already growing yarn stash.
On the right is some elsebeth lavold Silky Tweed: 40% silk 30% cotton 20% merino extra fine 10% viscose, 131 yd, colors: 03, 02, 08
On the left is Cascade Yarns Sierra Quatro: 80% pima cotton 20% wool, 191 yr, colors 96 & ?? (no color number is on the yellow skein).
ooh ahh. Finally, I've arranged the bags and other knick knacks. Three awesome bags, 2 smaller Lexie Barnes bags, Knitting Rules book, and needle point stoppers (they are super cute bears!!!).
She has also managed to guilt me into learning to knit socks. I think socks could be fun....though I did come across a "10 reasons not to knit socks" in the Knitting Rules books.

Calorimetry

I started and finished Knitty's calorimetry. I used Noro Silk Garden Lite and I think the is color 2031. It is really pretty. I cast on for this Friday night and worked on it a little then. I didn't really work on it on Saturday, but spent some time working on it on Sunday. I finished it tonight.

I have a shot of them mock wearing it (since I don't have a button yet), but I'll save that for another post.

Oh, I should mention that I knit it on size 5 needles and did not make any other pattern modifications. I think that I have enough of a ball left to knit a second one. I didn't even get to to the greens, blues, and purples in the ball.

I have more knitting (sad) news to write about. But I'll save that for another day, when I'm more refreshed since I'm still in shock.

The green machine

Stephen got a new car. It is a 1993 Saturn SC2. It has approx. 130,000 miles. He got it for $1000. Here are some pictures of it.

It seems like a decent car. It's actually pretty nice on the inside and the paint job on the outside is still pretty good with maybe one or two small rust spots.

I will do a knitting update soon.

Scarf + Wash cloth

I finally finished the my so called scarf. I think I started this project in Jan or Feb of this year. I decided to give this scarf to a friend of mine because she can tolerate wool around the neck better than I can. I also thought of her for the scarf because it is knit out of Manos del Uruguay and she really likes things like that (helping others, volunteering, giving back to communities). And by really like I mean it is her life.

I also included a wash cloth which I started on Saturday and finished yesterday. I knitted the basket weave one (it's the first one). I could have finished it faster if I had worked on it more. I estimate that the total time spent on the wash cloth to be 4-5 hours. I put her initials on it.

In other knitting news, I took Wicked off of the needles and tried it on again. I now feel (mostly) confident with how to proceed with it. I don't think I am going to add in an increases for my hips, except maybe a few, like only 2-3 rounds, maybe 5 tops. The arms seem to fit well, so that is good. I pretty much like how it looks and fit so far. I hope to finish it sometime in the next couple of weeks. It is still off the needles, but I will put it back on tomorrow and knit away.

I met the Yarn Harlot!!!!!

Yesterday was one of THE best days ever! It all started when Kate and I decided that we would drive up to Ann Arbor (a 2 h 30 min trip) to see the Yarn Harlot speak and do a book signing. We were beyond excited. We started the trip around 10am and arrived in Ann Arbor around 1pm. I kept saying "yay" and most of the time I'm not sure I was aware that I was saying it until after I was done saying it. The first shot of the day occurred as we walked and half ran to the library where the Yarn Harlot would be waiting for us.

Once there we couldn't believe that soo many people were already there! The seats were filled. Some people had been there since the library opened. It was such an awesome sight to see a room packed full of knitters all knitting and chatting away. And the bonus is that we were all there to see and support an awesome knitter/writer.

We saw people sitting along the sides and decided to join them. This also got us closer the front and closer to the Yarnharlot! Once seated we of course started knitting.

At around 2pm (when she was suppose to start speaking) we got an announcement: The Yarn Harlot was going to be late and would not arrive until around 4pm. It was also about this time that we noticed people with big pink bags....which could only be from one place - a yarn store. We inquired and learned that there was a yarn shop a couple of blocks away!!!!!!!! Score. The store, Busy Hands, was also having a 20% off wide store sale only making the store that much cooler.

We stayed there for quite some time. I think close to 315 or 330 we went back to the library to await the star of the day. Just after 4 the Yarn Harlot arrived and came running down the aisle - the very same aisle we were sitting in!!!

She gave a fabulous speech. It was hilarious and heart warming at the same time. She also explained why she was late. It turns out she was on a flight that made it to Detroit, but was not allowed to land because of fog. The plane was sent back to Chicago and she had to wait and wait and wait to get another flight. Finally back on the plane, she arrived in Detroit but with no ride to Ann Arbor. But wait! A stranger came to the rescue and gave her a ride to the library in Ann Arbor! His name is Brad. He was the hero for the day.

After the speech she was signing books and it turns out that our aisle seat was an excellent choice as that is where the line for book signings started. Kate's camera had run out of batteries (I had forgotten mine) and we befriend a girl named Cait in line and she took our picture with the YarnHarlot and promptly emailed it to Kate who emailed it to me.

And here we are at the height of an awesome day posing with the Yarn Harlot and her sock.

I should post about the yarn that I bought. Maybe I'll save that for another day.
